A message from the City of La Puente:
Recent activity by federal law enforcement in Los Angeles County has drawn significant attention from news outlets and social media platforms.
Immigration matters continue to fall under the jurisdiction of federal agencies, as they always have. The City of La Puente contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) for public safety services. The LASD does not enforce civil immigration laws, nor do deputies inquire about a person’s immigration status when responding to calls for service. Their mission is to maintain public safety, preserve peace, and protect the rights of all community members.
The Sheriff’s Department is not involved in federal immigration enforcement operations. However, if federal officers face a threat and request emergency support, the LASD will respond to provide assistance.
We strongly urge all residents to remain calm and peaceful if they witness any federal immigration activity in the community. It is important not to interfere with or obstruct federal operations, and to respond in a non-violent and respectful manner.
The City of La Puente does function as a safety net for La Puente residents in attempting to ensure local residents do not inadvertently enter any federal operational areas known to city personnel thru traffic control and perimeter directions when available.
