The goal of the Code Enforcement Division is to find solutions to problems resulting from violations of the City of La Puente Municipal Code. If left unattended, Code violations can detract from the positive appearance of commercial, industrial and residential neighborhoods.
The quality of life in the La Puente community is based on the pride residents have for their homes and business owners for their shops and companies. The high standards they support help maintain the appeal of the City. Sometimes the maintenance of certain individual properties may detract from the positive appearance of the community and affect property values.
To assist neighborhoods and businesses in preserving their appearance, the City has established property maintenance standards which are designed to enhance property values, protect the appearance, integrity and character of the community and secure the public’s health, safety and welfare. These standards are part of the City’s Municipal Code and establish the minimal maintenance standards for properties.
To ensure that the Municipal Code is followed, Code Enforcement Officers assist residents and business owners in keeping their properties in compliance. Oftentimes, a friendly conversation will set things in order; however, the Code Enforcement Officers have the authority to expeditiously abate problems that may endanger the health, safety and welfare of the community. The abatement process typically requires the clean-up or repair of properties that are found to be in violation of the City’s Municipal Code.
City Staff respond promptly to property maintenance complaints and work with property owners in preventing and correcting Code violations. All questions and inquiries are handled confidentially. For additional information on the Code Enforcement Program or to file a property maintenance complaint, please call (626) 855-1510.
Although it is a goal of the Code Enforcement Division to be responsive to the needs of the community, there are some situations that are not considered code violations. These include:
