Education Commission

The Education Commission consists of five members who meet on an as-needed basis to continue positive and harmonious community relations by exchanging constructive dialogue with representatives from the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, Rowland Unified School District and Bassett School District and working together on matters relating to education, scholarships, youth activities, youth safety and other issues of mutual benefit. 

The Education Commission reviews all of the scholarship applications and determines the award recipients based on the scholarship guidelines and requirements.  As part of this process, Commissioners deliberate on an annual basis to review the applications, verify the supporting documentation and interview the applicants.

Each member of the City Council appoints one member to the Education Commission.  The term of each Commissioner shall be for a period of two years.  Each Commissioner shall continue in office until his or her successor is appointed.  At the completion of any term, a Commissioner may be reappointed, pursuant to the procedures approved by the City Council.  Commission members serve without compensation.

Commissioners are required to attend at least six (6) regular meetings per year of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, Rowland Unified School District and/or Bassett Unified School District.

The term of each Commissioner shall be for a period of two years.

Commission members must be residents of the City at the time of appointment and throughout the term of office, and be registered to vote in the City.  Commissioners are required to attend at least six (6) regular meetings per year of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, Rowland Unified School District and/or Bassett Unified School District. Commissioners are appointed by, and serve at the pleasure of, the City Council.

As needed to consider community input regarding education, scholarships, youth activities, youth safety and other issues related thereto.
